Introduction

The first Turcology Institute in Turkey was established at Istanbul University in 1924. The aim of the institute is to “research and examine the Turkic culture and civilization in fields such as; language, literature, folklore and publish these results”. In order to do activities and study in this manner, Turcology Institutes have been opened in various universities since then. Today, there are seven institutes established in this manner in Turkey.

Based on the Additional Article 30th of the Law No. 2809 dated on 28.03.1983, the letter of the Ministry of National Education, which is officially numbered 16446 to the Council of Ministers on 15.09.2010. The opening of our institute, which is the youngest among Turcology Institutes, was decided by the Council of Ministers on 27.09.2010. This decision was published in the Official Newspaper by the number 27744 and put into effect on the 30th of October, 2010 and our institute was established under the name of “Turcology Institute”.
